And the shortlist of houses/apartments/flats all failed to make the cut.

It's like the basic laws of economics.

If it is convenient and cheap, it is furnished. (Haven't found one.)
If it is convenient and unfurnished, it is not cheap. (many many places)
If it is cheap and unfurnished, it is not convenient. (several places)
If it is cheap and convenient and unfurnished, it is beside a live seafood dealer whose produce makes the entire house stink. (one place)

I'm devoting my after-work waking hours searching. It's like seeking the perfect woman (doesn't exist - don't protest! See the PS.) or the perfect job (doesn't exist) or the...
